Keystone

A clearing in a forested region of ancient crosstimbers overlooking Lake Keystone in northeast Oklahoma is the setting of this 1,400 square foot home, designed to allow nature to quietly maintain dominance. Its relatively modest size perfectly suits the owner, an avid outdoorsman whose job requires much of his time spent traveling to all parts of the world. An elemental C-shape in section is extruded to form a superstructure that embraces the living spaces and expansive covered decks. Hardy materials of exposed steel, concrete, thermally modified wood siding, and standing seam metal roof and wall panels, are assembled to buffer the elements. The dark color palette allows the home to recede into the stands of trees in this remote location, becoming a welcome partner to the forest, and providing a retreat for respite and recovery to a weary world traveler.
