Lakeside Garners Design Awards
Lakeside, an end-to-end remodel of a humdrum 1960’s ranch style home overlooking a private neighborhood lake, was given two design awards in the 2023 AIA Oklahoma Excellence in Design Awards program!
Lakeside earned a Merit Award in the Residential division – the only residence to be given a design award by this year’s esteemed jurors from South Carolina.
The jury comments:
The jury appreciated the transformation of this mid-century ranch house into a sophisticated modernist nod to the genre. It was a subtle decision that was both sensitive to neighboring homes and potentially difficult to do well. By adhering to the palette, colors and proportions of the original house, the primary rules the architects imposed upon themselves, a deceptively minimalist design emerged. The meticulous, spare detailing of the exterior extends into an interior that also clearly draws inspiration from mid-century residential design. But, as with the exterior, the architects have resisted mid-century nostalgia through the use of sophisticated finishes and lighting more rooted in earlier European modernism, to achieve a clever stylistic balance.
Lakeside also garnered a People’s Choice Award, selected by architects and non-architects alike.
